Australia's cricket team came home victorious by 176 runs, owing to pacer Mitchell Starc's heroics with the ball in the third Test match against the West Indies.
There are several things to talk about in the recently-concluded Test match. Right from Starc's triple-wicket opening over to reaching the 400 wickets milestone in the longest format of the game, he achieved quite a few feats but the pacer said he felt uncomfortable during the game.
"It's certainly been uncomfortable throughout the week. I was happy just to have a win and sing the song. It's certainly been a special week to play, to wear the baggy green. It's been one I'll cherish for a long time," Starc told ESPNCricinfo.
During the match, Australia bowled out the West Indies for just 27 runs, with Justin Greaves registering the highest score of 11 runs off 24 deliveries, including two boundaries. After claiming just one wicket in the first innings, Starc bagged six wickets for nine runs in the second essay.
Speaking about bowling out the hosts for such a low score, the pacer said that no one thought it was going to happen that quickly.
"I think everyone today with the ball was pretty spot on. I don't think anyone thought it was going to happen that quickly. We were talking about almost consolidating the scoreboard until we got closer to that night session," added Starc.
"It wasn't a plan to drag it out. (But) if things weren't happening straight away, we knew that things would happen quicker in the night session. (It was like) this is what we want to do at the start, but if it doesn't happen straight away, let's just chill out and stop the scoreboard and cash in at night. Didn't need to," he explained.
Additionally, the pacer also completed 100 appearances for Australia in the traditional format of the game. In the same number of appearances, the 35-year-old has claimed 402 wickets, with the best bowling figures of six wickets for nine runs.
Once a sceptic of day-night Tests, Starc had voiced concerns when the format was first introduced but his performance says more. While he still feels such matches need careful scheduling with Adelaide as an ideal example, his record says otherwise, 81 wickets at an average of 17.08 in pink-ball Tests.
