The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to tighten its anti-doping measures in a few months.
The last doping issue that the Indian cricket board tackled concerned Delhi pacer Pradeep Sangwan, who was slapped an 18-month ban after testing positive in a random dope test during the 2013 Indian Premier League.
The BCCI, it is learnt, is exploring the option of blood testing. As of now, the BCCI conducts urine test of players which are not foolproof as a lot of banned substances cannot be detected in a urine test.
It is also looking to introduce target testing instead of random testing from next season. So, any player performing extraordinarily will be under the anti-doping radar.
It is also learnt that the International Cricket Council wants the BCCI to take the lead in blood testing measures as a lot of players have expressed reservations over them.
"It brings discomfort to players as it keeps them away from practice for a few days due to pain in the arm," said a source.
