The Supreme Court indicated yesterday that it is likely to replace the existing office-bearers of the Indian cricket board with a three-member committee and asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to suggest names who could be included in the committee.
During yesterday&rsquo;s hearing, the BCCI opposed making former Union Home Secretary GK Pillai the observer to head the committee to oversee implementation of the organisational reforms recommended by the Justice RM Lodha Committee.
When asked whether the BCCI had any names they would like to refer to the apex body, a top official said: &ldquo;If we agree to name three probables to be included in the committee it will mean we have accepted the Panel&rsquo;s recommendations.&rdquo;
Meanwhile, amicus curiae Gopal Subramanium had suggested Mohinder Amarnath as one of the members of the committee.
Sources revealed later that Subramanium also suggested former CAG head Vinod Rai as the other member. Amarnath not long ago was a selector who was reportedly replaced because he wanted to displace MS Dhoni from the Test captaincy.
It could well be that Amarnath, like possible members of other proposed committees, was sounded out by the Lodha Panel on the possibility of him getting into the inner ring of administration.
Rai, the 11th Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India from January 7, 2008 to May 22, 2013, is considered a symbol of the anti-corruption movement and is responsible for making the 2G Spectrum scam, the CoalGate and the corruptions during the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010 public.
