Corey Anderson earned a place in cricket’s record books but knew nothing of it at the time.

The New Zealand batsman cracked a fastest-ever one-day hundred against West Indies, with the 23-year-old taking just 36 balls to reach the milestone. In doing so he beat the 37-ball knock of Shahid Afridi for Pakistan 17 years ago, with his assault including 14 maximums and four sixes. Anderson’s barrage came as part of a 159-run victory for the Black Caps in a rain-shortened match, with New Zealand’s 283 for four in 21 overs far too much for the tourists to deal with. They were toothless in a response of 124 for five but it was Anderson who was the story, even if he did not know why.
