England pacer Chris Woakes revealed that he had said sorry to Team India's Rishabh Pant for bowling a delivery that broke his foot during the fourth Test match.

In an attempt to reverse sweep the delivery, Pant sustained a blow on his foot, following which he seemed to be in pain and was forced to leave the field mid-match.

Despite him retiring hurt, the left-hander came to bat the next day with the broken foot. Similarly, Woakes injured himself during the fifth Test match. In an attempt to avoid a boundary, the pacer sustained an injury to his shoulder.

Even Chris Woakes came out to bat on the last day of the fifth Test match, with his arm covered under the jersey.

Speaking about Pant, Woakes told 'The Guardian', "I saw Rishabh (Pant) had put an image of me on Instagram with a salute emoji, so I replied thanking him: 'Appreciate the love and hope the foot is OK,' etc".

The 36-year-old then said that he received a voice note from the Indian, in which Pant said that he is hopeful of facing him again.

"He then sent me a voice note saying: 'I hope all is OK, good luck with the recovery and I hope we meet again out there some day'. I obviously said sorry for the broken foot," he said.

The Englishman then recalled the praise heaped by Team India's Test skipper Shubman Gill.

"(India captain) Shubman (Gill) said something like: 'That was incredibly brave'," said the pacer.

The Birmingham-born cricketer also hailed Gill for having a stunning debut series as captain.

"I told him: 'You've had an unbelievable series, well played, and credit to your team'. Both sets of players had been through the mill in the series and deserve credit for the show we put on. Both teams wanted the win, of course, but it does kind of feel fair that it was drawn," concluded Woakes, who has represented the 'Three Lions' in 62 Test matches so far.

However, the five-match Test series between India and England ended in a 2-2 draw.
