During the first ODI match, the right-handed batsman played a knock of 44 runs in 52 deliveries. His knock was laced with five boundaries.
With this, Root etched his name in the record books, as he became the eighth batsman in international cricket to cross 23,000 runs across all formats of the game.
This was his 394th international appearance, and he has also become <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/jos-buttler-powers-england-to-3-0-t20i-series-sweep-over-sri-lanka-23650926" rel="nofollow">England</a>'s leading run-scorer in both Test and ODI cricket.

Cook scored the bulk of his runs in Test cricket, finishing with 12,472 runs in the longest format.
Root has been one of England's consistent and finest cricketers across all three formats of the game.
