The Australian dollar may be at a 20-year high but a lack of spending power hasn't deterred thousands of England cricket fans from making the long trek to Australia for the Ashes series.

There had been fears that the strong Australian dollar had scared English supporters off the trip, but when play began at Brisbane's Gabba ground Thursday it appeared almost half the 40,000 fans were wearing England white.
