Sydney: Famed Australian cricket captain and commentator Richie Benaud, known for his rich insight of the game, passed away on Thursday night after a prolonged battle against skin cancer at the age of 84.

As a player, Benaud started out as an attacking batsman and accurate slow bowler before growing into the first Test all-rounder to reach 200 wickets and 2,000 runs. But there was much more to his life than on-field deeds, according to Cricket Australia (CA).
