Farokh Engineer, the former wicketkeeper-batsman's India cap and Rest of the World blazer were sold for £680 (Rs 57,000 approx) and £700 (Rs 59,000) respectively at an auction in London recently.

The blue cap and duck egg blue blazer (which Engineer wore during the Rest of the World vs Australia series in 1971-72) went under the hammer at Sotheby's in London's Bond Street on November 7. Both items were bought in the expected range of £750 to £1,000.

As per policy, Graham Budd Auctions could not reveal the name of the buyer, but Budd indicated that it was not purchased by an Indian. The cap and blazer were previously owned by an England cricketer who, according to the firm's catalogue, was presented these items by Engineer.

Former World Cupper S Madan Lal's 1974 India blazer too was sold. It fetched £420 (Rs 35,000 approx). Australian fast bowling great Dennis Lillee's baggy green cap was picked up for a whopping £7000 (Rs 5.90 lakh) which, considering the value of baggy greens all over the world, didn't surprise Budd at all.
