Former president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Ravi Savant has urged the current MCA chief Ashish Shelar to set up an enquiry committee to look into the alleged mismanagement of the MCA grounds at the Bandra Kurla Complex and the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana in Kandivli.
In a letter to Shelar on February 12, Savant pointed out that regular friendly matches that are held at these grounds at the cost of MCA matches. The BKC and Kandivli grounds have been accorded first-class status by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). "Presently, the Kandivli ground is being used for tennis ball tournaments. Has the Managing Committee given permission for such tournaments? Is it not an irony that MCA tournament matches are being cancelled due to scarcity of grounds while such tournaments are being played with fanfare and loud speakers?" Savant asked in his letter.
Savant was also critical of the management at the BKC ground where "regular friendly matches are being arranged". He alleged: "The grounds are booked in one person/agency name only and then it is sublet by charging extra money underhand. Recently, even BCCI ladies matches were shifted from our ground to MIG ground (Bandra). Who was favoured at the cost of BCCI? Who is booking these matches? Who has fixed ground charges?" Savant asked. "Recently, the IDBI bowling scheme was stopped for some reasons, but a new academy has started at BKC. I would like to make full enquiry in this matter by appointing a enquiry committee as there is more than the eyes meet (sic)," he stated.
