The five-match Test series between Team India and England ended in a 2-2 draw. Following the series' result, former Team India head coach Gary Kirsten was pleased with incumbent head coach Gautam Gambhir's success.
While speaking to the reporters, Kirsten said that he has worked with Gambhir a lot and levelling the series against England is great for Indian cricket.
"I'm very excited that India won the series; I mean, levelled the series. And it's great for Indian cricket, and I'm really pleased for Gautam Gambhir as well. He's well known, and I've worked with him a lot, and I'm just pleased for what he's achieved with the team," he said.
The former South African cricketer also said that India has a strong sporting culture. He also added that his love for the country is seeing the development of young people.
"I think India has a strong sports culture as well. Every country does it one way or another," said the 57-year-old.
"I think my love for India is to see the development of young people in the holistic development of them. So we know that education is really strong in India, and that's something that, as South Africans, we can learn from," he added.
In the fifth Test match against the 'Three Lions', Team India pacer Mohammed Siraj rattled through the hosts' batting lineup.
The pacer was also named the 'Player of the Match' for his match-winning contributions. In England's first innings, the Hyderabad-born cricketer returned with the figures of four wickets by conceding 86 runs. Later, in the second essay, he registered a five-wicket haul for 104 runs.
Riding on his stunning performance, the Shubman Gill-led India registered a victory by six runs against England at The Oval.
With this, the young Indian pack managed to secure a draw in the series against England, in which they toured without the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin. Several newcomers rose up to different occasions and delivered performances for Team India. The series was also a memorable one for skipper Gill, as it was his first time captaining the side in the longest format of the game.
