Former India pacer Karsan Ghavri yesterday stepped down as selector from Mumbai&rsquo;s senior selection panel due to his appointment with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as bowling coach for West Zone academy and Talent Research Development Officer (TRDO).

Paranjape comes in Ghavri, who was appointed as senior selector in June 2015, will be replaced by former Mumbai batsman Jatin Paranjape in the senior and U-23 selection panel. The decision was taken by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) during its Cricket Improvement Committee yesterday.

Ghavri was satisfied with his one-year term in which Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy for the 41st time and the U-23 team lifted the Col CK Nayudu Trophy. &ldquo;We had a fantastic season. I had a great time with my colleagues as well. We had developed a good understanding. With Milind Rege as chairman and Dilip Vengsarkar as CIC chief, we had a good combination. We never had any differences amongst ourselves. Unfortunately, I had to step down from my position after accepting the BCCI&rsquo;s offer since there could be a conflict of interest as it&rsquo;s a paid job,&rdquo; Ghavri told mid-day.
Vengsarkar, who is the National Cricket Academy chairman, said Ghavri&rsquo;s new role with the NCA&rsquo;s zonal academy would have prevented him from watching matches in Mumbai.
&lsquo;He did an excellent job&rsquo; &ldquo;The selector&rsquo;s main job is to watch as many matches as possible. He did an excellent job as Mumbai selector. However, with his appointment from the Board, it would have been difficult for him to watch matches and that is why he stepped down,&rdquo; said Vengsarkar.
Paranjape, meanwhile, is excited about his maiden innings as senior Mumbai selector after being in the U-19 set up a few years ago. &ldquo;I am looking forward to this challenge. I want to give it back to the game. Whatever I am is because of Mumbai cricket,&rdquo; he said.
Meanwhile, Guru Gupte was elevated as chairman of U-19 committee after Ranjan Baindoor passed away recently. Santosh Shinde has been promoted from the U-16 to U-19 selection panel. Former Mumbai Ranji cricketers Manoj Joglekar and Ravi Kulkarni have been appointed as U-16 selectors.
