Auckland: Australia captain Michael Clarke admitted his side&rsquo;s batting in their one-wicket defeat to fellow World Cup co-hosts New Zealand was &ldquo;horrendous&rdquo;.

Clarke, who made 12 from 18 balls, said afterwards on Sky Sports World Cup: &ldquo;We would have liked the result to go the other way but credit to the way Kane played, and Brendon himself, (it) was outstanding.
&ldquo;Our batting was horrendous, to put it politely.
&ldquo;I think both teams would probably say we didn&rsquo;t bat as well as we would have liked. Credit to New Zealand the way they bowled, I thought they swung the ball really well and executed their skills really well.&rdquo;
