Brisbane: The cricket World Cup match between Australia and Bangladesh was today abandoned without a ball being bowled after persistent heavy rain drenched the Gabba ground in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Marcia and rendered it unsuitable for the game.

Marcia, a category five storm, had weakened after slamming into the Queensland coast late Thursday causing widespread devastation, but its residual effect caused persistent rain over Brisbane.
