Abu Dhabi: Discharged England captain Alastair Cook on Wednesday said his country's early exit from the World Cup was proof that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) was wrong to sack him as one-day captain just months from the quadrennial tournament.

Speaking in Abu Dhabi ahead of the Emirates T20 tournament this week, Cook said: "I can't speak about what's gone on there in depth, but you always back yourself, and I would have loved to have had the opportunity that was taken away from me.
