Afghanistan is set to clash against <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/photo/ind-vs-wi-will-selectors-pick-all-rounder-hardik-pandya-for-the-series-against-the-caribbean-113085" rel="nofollow">Team India</a> in the second T20I match. The clash is scheduled to be played on September 16 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Ahead of the match, Afghanistan's veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi is set to achieve a new record in his international career. He is just four scalps short of completing 300 wickets in international cricket.
So far, Nabi has 296 wickets in 334 international matches for <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/photo/ind-vs-afg-t20is-rashid-khan-set-to-complete-200-wickets-for-afghanistan-in-the-format-history-113037" rel="nofollow">Afghanistan</a>. His best bowling figures are five wickets for 17 runs. Over the years, he has been one of Afghanistan's greatest contributors in international cricket.
On the other hand, Team India's mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy is likely ruled out of the remainder of the series due to an injury.The injury has also put him in doubt for the upcoming Asian Games 2026.
"It is a fresh injury. He is out of the series," said a BCCI source.
So far, there has been no confirmation from the board.
Recently, Chakaravarthy recovered from the hamstring injury that he suffered during the tour of <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/brendon-mccullum-urges-brydon-carse-to-get-his-house-in-order-for-england-return-23650088" rel="nofollow">England</a>.
Earlier, in the first T20I match against Afghanistan, Team India secured a win by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
During the first match, along with Chakaravarthy, lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah, and Axar Patel also bagged one wicket each. Arshdeep Singh returned with the figures of three wickets for 19 runs in four overs. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Abhishek Sharma, and <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/t20-mumbai-league-its-tushar-deshpande-vs-shivam-dube-in-final-23634941" rel="nofollow">Shivam Dube</a> went wicketless in the clash against the Afghans.
Currently, the "Men in Blue" are leading the three-match series by 1-0 against the Afghans.
