In the first ODI match against Team India, Australia emerged victorious by seven wickets through the DLS method at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
Having put to chase 137 runs in 26 overs, Australia's captain, Mitchell Marsh, played an unbeaten knock of 46 runs off 52 balls. His knock was laced with two boundaries and three maximums.
Opening the innings, Australia lost the early wicket of opener Travis Head. Facing five balls, he scored just eight runs, with the help of two boundaries. Matt Short, too, departed on eight runs in 17 balls, including a boundary.
Later, Josh Philippe smashed 37 runs off 29 balls. His knock was laced with three boundaries and two maximums.
Along with Marsh, Matt Renshaw stayed unbeaten. Renshaw garnered an unbeaten 21 runs after facing 24 balls. He also smashed a boundary and a maximum.
Team India's Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar registered one wicket each to their names. Bowling five overs, Singh conceded 31 runs. Patel bowled four overs and gave away 19 runs, whereas Sundar was smashed for 14 runs in two overs.
Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, and Nitish Kumar Reddy went wicketless in the first ODI match. In four overs, Siraj was smashed for 21 runs. Rana leaked 27 runs in his spell of four overs while Reddy conceded 16 runs in his spell of 2.1 overs.
Earlier, Team India posted 136 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the rain-curtailed match against the Aussies. After continuous rain interruption, the play was cut short from 50 overs to 26 overs.
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, KL Rahul played a gritty knock of 38 runs off 31 deliveries, including two boundaries and the same number of maximums. Along with him, Patel scored 31 runs in 38 balls. His knock was laced with three boundaries.
Team India's stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma endured a poor outing with the willow on their return to international cricket. Sharma departed after scoring eight runs in 14 balls, including a boundary.
Australia's Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Owen, and Matthew Kuhnemann bagged two wickets each. Mitchell Starc and Nathan Ellis registered one wicket each. Matt Short failed to claim any wickets.
