After concluding the three-match ODI series, Team India's traditional opening batsman Rohit Sharma said that he never got four to five months to prepare for a series. He also said that utilising the period well helped him understand what he needs to do in the rest of his career.

"Since the time I started playing, I never had four to five months to prepare for a series, so I wanted to utilise that. I wanted to do things in my own way, on my own terms, and that actually worked out well for me, understanding what I need to do for the rest of my career," he told the BCCI website.

The right-hander played an unbeaten knock of 121 runs off 125 deliveries. His knock was laced with 13 boundaries and three maximums. Following his knock, the 38-year-old was named as "Player of the Match" and the "Player of the Series".

Along with Rohit, stalwart Virat Kohli smashed an unbeaten 74 runs. His knock came in 81 balls, which also included seven boundaries.

On building a successful partnership with Kohli, Rohit said there was added pressure on the batsmen after Shreyas Iyer walked off the field and the partnership was crucial from the team's perspective.

"Fantastic partnership (with Kohli) after a long long time. I think we did not have a 100-run partnership for a long time. It was good to get that partnership from a team's perspective, looking at how we were placed at one point," said the Nagpur-born cricketer.

"(Shubman) Gill got out a bit early, and we knew with (injured) Shreyas Iyer not being there, there was an added responsibility on batters. We enjoyed every moment we spent out there, there was a lot of chatter between the two of us," he added.

He also said that both of them have played a lot of cricket together and have a great understanding of each other's game.

"We have played so much cricket together. We understand each other really well, so much experience between the two of us and we used it pretty well," said Rohit.

However, the "Men in Blue" lost the series by 1-2 against Australia. Both teams will not face each other for the five-match T20I series, starting from October 29.

The first match is scheduled to be played at the Manuka Oval.
