The partnerships hold more importance than individual scores for Team India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir. He also labelled Sai Sudharsan as a 'remarkable talent'.
"I don't even look at the individual runs. I only look at the partnerships. I think if we want to build this team, we want to build this team on partnerships, not on individual scores," said Gambhir.
In the fourth Test match, Sai Sudharsan was picked by benching Karun Nair. The left-hander was dropped after the first Test match, in which he registered the scores of zero and 30 runs, respectively.
In the fourth Test match, Sudharsan slammed his maiden Test half-century, but departed on a duck in the second innings.
Speaking about the 23-year-old's performance, the head coach said, "I think if the number three can have a partnership and can contribute in that partnership, I think he's done his job. That is something which is very important. And Sai is a phenomenal talent".
Gambhir also backed Sudharsan by saying a player can't be judged after every match. He also added that Sai is a 23-year-old player, and people need to be patient with all the players.
"I think you can't keep judging people after every game. He's 23, playing his first test series in England in English conditions, and still putting his hand out and scoring that brilliant 50 or 60. I think you've got to have patience with these boys," said the 43-year-old.
Recapping the Manchester Test, stellar centuries from Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar in the second innings guided India to secure a draw in the fourth test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Sunday.
India batted for more than five sessions to save the Manchester Test. India, at the end of the final session on Day 5, was 425/4, with Jadeja 107* and Sundar 101* unbeaten at the crease. The duo added 203 runs for the fifth wicket.
Ben Stokes was awarded player of the match for his brilliant five-wicket haul, followed by a stellar hundred in the first innings. This was his consecutive POTM award in the ongoing series.
