Since Rishabh Pant is ruled out of the remainder of the series due to a fracture in his right foot, India brought in Narayan Jagadeesan as his replacement for the fifth and final Test against England starting at The Oval in London on Thursday.

India needed a second wicketkeeper in the squad as per the ICC rule which states that every team must have two wicketkeepers — one will play and the other will have to wait in the dressing room as an injury substitute, like Jurel did when Pant got injured in the fourth Test at Manchester.

KL Rahul could have been an option, but he does not keep wickets in Test.

Thus, Jurel is the frontrunner to don the wicketkeeper’s gloves for India in the fifth Test while 29-year-old Tamil Nadu player Jagadeesan will be an injury substitute.
