After Team India’s iconic victory at The Oval, the five-match Test series against England ended in a 2-2 draw.

With the series resulting in a draw, each team’s head coach selected one player from the opposition for the Player of the Series award.

England head coach Brendon McCullum picked Indian skipper Shubman Gill, whereas the visitors’ head coach Gautam Gambhir chose Harry Brook ahead of star performers Joe Root and Ben Stokes.

On being picked as England’s Player of the Series, Brook said that in his opinion, Joe Root should be Man of the Series considering the number of runs he scored in the contest.

"I didn’t score as many runs as Rooty (Joe Root), so I probably think he should be Man of the Series, and Man of the Summer again, like he has been for many years," Brook told the BBC.

During the fifth Test match, Brook played a knock of 111 runs in England’s second innings. His innings came off 98 balls, including 14 boundaries and two sixes.

Along with him, Root was another centurion for the hosts in the second innings. Facing 152 deliveries, the right-hander scored 105 runs, which included 12 boundaries.

Despite their heroic centuries, the side suffered a loss by six runs at The Oval. Speaking about the series, the 26-year-old said, "I think we’re in a great place. Obviously, it has been an awesome series. 2-2, I didn’t think it was going to be like this, to be honest."

While Brook scored 481 runs at an average of 53.44, Root amassed 537 runs at an average of 67.12 across nine innings in the five-match series.

On the other hand, the series was one to remember for skipper Gill. In his debut series as captain, the 25-year-old scored 754 runs, with four centuries, including a double hundred. The right-hander also broke several batting records and showed positive signs for the future of Indian cricket.

Along with Gill, several newcomers rose to the occasion and played crucial roles in helping the side draw the series against the Three Lions.
