The expletive-laden exchange with Zak Crawley was quite out of character. Gill’s general demeanour has always come across as Dravid or Rohit-like
Shubman Gill
Should Shubman Gill’s changed approach in the Lord’s Test be a cause of worry for Indian cricket?
In the Edgbaston Test, he looked calm and settled, both as batsman and captain. At Lord’s, he seemed edgy and unsettled from virtually the first ball in both innings. His third day last over loss-of-cool apparently affected him more than his opponents. Perhaps he could have handled it differently, with a sarcastic sledge! It’s important for Indian cricket that he get back to his own cool but steely self.
In the past, Gill has shown that he can be animated whilst being resolute and focussed. The expletive-laden exchange with Zak Crawley was quite out of character. Gill’s general demeanour has always come across as Dravid or Rohit-like.
For the good of Indian cricket, one hopes that he stops trying to be temperamentally someone he’s not.
