In the first ODI match against New Zealand, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-nz-1st-odi-virat-kohli-achieves-several-records-with-match-winning-knock-in-auckland-23658472" rel="nofollow">Team India</a> registered a win by five wickets at the Eden Park in Auckland.
Following the win, the visitors' skipper Shubman Gill said that it was a good team performance. He also gave a special mention to Rohit Sharma, who effected a run out, sending Daryl Mitchell back to the pavilion.
"I think we were very good with the bowling. And I think our fielding was also really good. That run out by Rohit bhai, I think changed the momentum of the game. I think it was really that partnership (Daryl Mitchell and <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-nz-5th-t20i-glenn-phillips-match-winning-knock-helps-new-zealand-win-by-three-wickets-23657985" rel="nofollow">Glenn Phillips</a>), we saw that even in India - those two batted really well in India. And overall I think a very good team performance for us," he said.
Earlier in the first essay of the game, Arshdeep Singh claimed four wickets by conceding 70 runs in 10 overs. Along with him, Gurnoor Brar and Anshul Kamboj also bagged three and two wickets, respectively.
When asked about the performances of Kamboj and Brar, the skipper said that the bowling display by both players was magnificent to watch.
"I mean Anshul is the kind of a bowler, I think he is tailor-made for these kind of conditions, always nippy, trying to seam the ball. And good with the old ball. We felt when there is not much happening from the wicket, he (Brar) can create that extra bounce and with his pace and the way both of them bowled tonight was really magnificent to watch," said Gill.
Later, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/photo/ind-vs-nz-1st-odi-virat-kohli-surpasses-sachin-tendulkar-for-most-runs-while-chasing-in-format-113906/1" rel="nofollow">Team India's superstar batsman Virat Kohli</a> delivered a match-winning knock of 74 runs. Facing 51 balls, he smashed 13 boundaries and a maximum. The right-handed batsman also achieved several records with his knock.
With this, the "Men in Blue" have taken a lead by 1-0 in the five-match series against New Zealand. The visitors will look to continue their winning momentum and seal the series. Earlier, Team India, under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, won the T20I series by 3-2 against the "Black Caps".
