<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/gautam-gambhir-provides-update-on-rishabh-pants-injury-status-ahead-of-nz-tests-23658094" rel="nofollow">Team India's wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant</a> has been given another opportunity to clear his fitness test ahead of the upcoming Test series against New Zealand.
Earlier, he failed to pass the assessment at the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, according to Cricinfo.
The medical team will likely conduct the fitness assessment within the next two days to decide whether the left-handed batsman is ready to travel to <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-nz-odis-new-zealand-pacer-jacob-duffy-heaps-praise-on-team-india-virat-kohli-23657989" rel="nofollow">New Zealand</a>. His availability in the matches will remain subject to fitness clearance.
If he manages to clear the test, Pant will likely join the India A squad for the third four-day game against New Zealand A. The match will be played in Lincoln from November 7.
It will also serve as preparation for the two-match Test series against the "Black Caps".
The selectors had named Pant in both the India A squad and the senior men's squad for the two-Test series against New Zealand, subject to his fitness clearance. However, he was ruled out of the first two four-day matches between India A and New Zealand A.
Following his unavailability, the selectors had included uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra in the India A squad for the first two matches on October 12. However, Kushagra did not feature in the playing XI, with Dhruv Jurel, who also captains the side, taking up wicketkeeping duties. Jurel is also part of India's Test squad.
The BCCI has already announced India's Test squad for the series. <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-nz-odis-team-india-skipper-shubman-gill-reaches-auckland-ahead-of-five-match-series-23657569" rel="nofollow">Shubman Gill</a> will be leading the side, and KL Rahul has been appointed as his deputy.
New Zealand is yet to announce the squad for the two-match Test series.
