Earlier, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-sl-1st-test-shubman-gill-wins-the-toss-and-elects-to-bat-first-23644917" rel="nofollow">Team India's skipper Shubman Gill</a> won the toss and elected to bat first. The visitors posted a total of 462 runs in their first innings.&nbsp;
In response, the hosts managed to reach 284 runs in their first innings. Team India has now taken a lead of over 300 runs in their second innings on Day 4 of the first Test match.
So far, the game has seen Team India's batsmen face a tough challenge posed by the Sri Lankan bowlers.&nbsp;

Rahane's retirement has also left a huge void to fill for Team India in the longest format of the game. Although Shubman Gill has taken over the leadership role for the new era of Indian cricket, it will be interesting to see if he manages to taste success in the format.
