The decks are finally cleared to stage the India A vs England warm-up ties at the Cricket Club of India&rsquo;s (CCI) Brabourne Stadium after the Mumbai Police finally agreed to provide security for today&rsquo;s day-night encounter and also for the next game on Thursday.
"We had a meeting regarding providing security to the practice matches and have decided to provide security for the same, but talks are on regarding payment of the security cover," said Ashok Dudhe, DCP (Operation).
The original fee for the police bandobast for the warm-up matches was Rs 10 lakh each which the CCI was willing to pay. But the presence of high profile stars like MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Ajinkya Rahane to name a few, have made the police realise that they will need more force to man the stadium than they had earlier thought about and so demanded Rs 60 lakh as a revised fee.
The CCI will get Rs 1 lakh each from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for hosting the two matches and entry for the matches is free. The CCI expressed their inability to cough up the revised fee as demanded by the police. Some sources in BCCI also said that the cricket body was not willing to pay the security fee, giving a hint of their non-cooperation with the Supreme Court and its recommendations that followed.
The matter got more prominence after Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and Hyderabad Cricket Association reportedly declined to host an U-19 Test against England and the one-off Test against Bangladesh respectively.
