After losing the two-match T20I series 0-2 to Ireland followed by a 0-4 defeat to England across five T20Is, Team India began the three-match ODI series on a positive note here on Tuesday.

England won the toss and decided to bat, but they probably wished they didn’t, as some disciplined stuff from the visiting bowlers saw them bundled out for 258 in 47.5 overs. The seasoned Joe Root (76 off 76 balls, 6x4s, 1x6) and a plucky Liam Dawson (83-ball 68, 6x4s, 1x6) scored half-centuries in a gutsy seventh wicket stand for 121 runs even as India spinner Axar Patel picked 4-62 off 9.5 overs to emerge the best bowler for India.
