As the Asia Cup 2025 returns to the T20I format, the cricketing world turns its eyes once again to India vs Pakistan. A clash that transcends statistics and stirs emotions, this historic face-off continues to deliver high-octane action, regardless of the format.

While Pakistan have traditionally held the upper hand in Tests and ODIs, India have asserted dominance in T20 Internationals. Out of 13 T20Is played between the arch-rivals since their first encounter in the 2007 T20 World Cup, India have emerged triumphant on nine occasions, with Pakistan winning just three. One match ended in a memorable tie, eventually settled by a bowl-out in India's favour.

In the Asia Cup T20 format specifically, the two sides have met three times so far, with India leading the head-to-head 2-1. The inaugural T20 edition of the Asia Cup was played in 2016, just ahead of the T20 World Cup. In that game, India showcased a dominant bowling performance, bundling out Pakistan for a paltry 83. Virat Kohli played a crucial role in anchoring the chase with a composed 49, guiding India to a five-wicket win in Mirpur.

Fast forward to 2022, the two teams met again in Dubai. India continued their winning run in the group stage, clinching another five-wicket win. All-rounder Hardik Pandya starred with both bat and ball, cementing his status as a match-winner in high-pressure situations.

However, Pakistan hit back strongly in the Super 4 stage of the same tournament. In a dramatic contest, Mohammad Nawaz stunned the Indian side with a blistering all-round performance, scoring 42 off just 20 balls. Mohammad Rizwan anchored the innings with a measured half-century, helping Pakistan chase down India’s target and level the recent T20I Asia Cup ledger.

Across the last five T20I encounters between the two nations, India lead narrowly with three wins to Pakistan’s two.
