A win would have obviously been sweeter, but former India cricketer Ravi Shastri is delighted with India drawing the final Test against South Africa and with it the series 1-1 at Newlands here yesterday.
"India did the right thing by not chasing the total of 340 runs. It was a sensible thing to do because they would have lost wickets while chasing the target," Shastri told MiD DAY.
"Even on the fifth day, the new ball would have troubled our batsmen. India were right in their over-cautious approach on the final day.
"South Africa were desperate to win the Test and that is why they waited for the new ball in the hope that something would happen. Indian batsmen did not take any chances and the wicket also flattened out later in the day," he added.
