West Indies captain Chris Gayle has bemoaned his side's poor batting, and the spate of injuries that has robbed him of several key players in the home series against South Africa, which ended on Tuesday. The absence of Ramnaresh Sarwan, Jerome Taylor, Fidel Edwards, and Adrian Barath for some, if not all of the series, meant that West Indies fielded an under-strength side, and South Africa had things mostly all their way. The South Africans wrapped up a 2-0 Test series win, with a seven-wicket victory in the third and final Test at Kensington Oval. They also won the first Test inside four days by 163 runs at Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad, and the second Test was drawn at Warner Park in St. Kitts. This followed a clean sweep of the two Twenty20 Internationals, as well as the five One-day Internationals that preceded the Tests. "When I looked at some of the dismissals throughout the series, it was actually errors from some of the batters," he said. "We can take a leaf out of the South African book by the way they go about their cricket and their discipline." He added: "When I say discipline, I mean they showed the application out there in the middle, and if they don't get that start there is always someone there to put their hand up, and make a big one for their team. "We need more of that. We do it, but inconsistently. We are just trying to be more consistent in whatever areas we do. We had a lot of injuries. We had a couple of senior players out, and hopefully we can get everybody fully fit and back together as one." Gayle admitted that captaincy in circumstances when several key players were missing, and the team was not batting well, was proving a difficult job. He pushed back against criticism of his leadership, and confirmed he wants to remain in the position. "Definitely, I want to go on," he said. "Before the series, I was brought into a meeting, and had a discussion about my future, and gave them my everything, so we will see what happens. "I am still willing to go on. I am still pushing to go on. I still have a lot to offer in that particular area, and there are a few issues I need to sort out before I continue. "When you are not getting the support there is going to be a problem, so we need to address that as quickly as possible, and see how well be can come up with a better system." u00a0
