Royal Challengers Bengaluru mentor Dinesh Karthik welcomed Mayank Agarwal’s return to the franchise, calling him a local talent who has won numerous matches with the bat.

"It was obvious that Mayank is the right choice. We know what he has done before. He is a local boy as well, and he has won so many games with the bat. It almost became a simple choice once that name was given," said Karthik, in a video titled 'E03 RCB's road to Finale' on their official YouTube channel.

Mayank came in as Devdutt Padikkal's replacement, acquired by the Bengaluru-based franchise for Rs 1 crore. Speaking about picking Mayank as a replacement, Karthik said you try to replace that player as best you can.

"When somebody gets ruled out, it's obviously unfortunate, but you try to replace that player as best you can. Devdutt's injury happened, and then there is a process to figure out when he will be ready. When we knew he was not going to be ready, we went through the scouting process," said the 40-year-old.

"The scouting process is very strong. Malolan Rangarajan heads it and one of Mo Bobat's greatest strengths was how well he scouted for the English team," added Karthik.

So far in the IPL 2025, Mayank has represented RCB in three matches and has scored 71 runs with a strike rate of 154. He also stayed unbeaten on 41 runs during their last group stage match against Lucknow Super Giants.

The 34-year-old also played a cameo of 19 during a 102-run chase against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier one, sealing RCB's final spot.

So far, Mayank Agarwal has featured in 130 IPL matches and has scored 2,732 runs. He also has a century and 13 half-centuries to his name. To date, the right-hander has represented five IPL franchises, namely Punjab Kings (PBKS), Delhi Capitals (DC), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Rising Pune Supergiant (RPG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Rajat Patidar-led RCB will now clash against Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final, which is scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on June 3.
