Royal Challengers Bengaluru face a stern challenge as they prepare to take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium on Tuesday. The Bengaluru outfit will have their work cut out against LSG’s formidable and aggressive top order, which has been in scintillating form throughout IPL 2025, showcasing both consistency and intent.

For Lucknow, who are already out of the playoff contention in IPL 2025, their final group-stage match holds no bearing on the points table. However, the team will be keen to end their campaign on a high and potentially spoil Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s party. With no pressure of qualification, LSG might approach the contest with an aggressive, fearless mindset.

Yet, just before the much-anticipated clash, concerns have emerged over the fitness of skipper Rishabh Pant. A video that surfaced online showed the LSG captain limping after signing autographs for fans, reigniting fears about a recurrence of the knee injury that had previously disrupted his international career. The sight of Pant in discomfort has raised questions over his availability for the game.

Given his status as a key figure in the franchise, LSG may opt to rest Pant as a precautionary measure, especially with the team’s tournament journey already concluded. If Pant is indeed ruled out of the fixture, the attention immediately shifts to his potential replacement as captain.

Nicholas Pooran, LSG’s designated vice-captain, is the front-runner to assume leadership duties in Pant’s absence. Pooran, known for his aggressive batting and sharp wicketkeeping skills, could effectively step into Pant’s dual role as captain and wicketkeeper. The West Indian has been one of the standout performers for LSG this season, and his experience in leading teams in various T20 leagues around the world further strengthens his case.

However, if the team management chooses to go in a different direction, they have another strong leadership option in Mitchell Marsh. The Australian all-rounder has prior experience captaining the national team and has shown admirable composure and tactical nous when leading sides in high-stakes matches. Marsh has also been a consistent performer with the bat for LSG, making him a natural candidate to shoulder additional responsibility.
