Many are left to wonder whether Mumbai Indians’ bid to secure a record-extending seventh IPL final appearance could take a hit, in case rain threatens to influence the outcome of their Qualifier 2 clash against Punjab Kings. The highly anticipated encounter, scheduled for Sunday in Ahmedabad, comes amid lingering concerns following days of persistent rain in the city.

Despite the recent wet spell, the latest forecasts offer a measure of reassurance. Meteorological predictions suggest largely dry conditions prevailing through Sunday evening, with only a marginal chance of a brief shower around late afternoon. Humidity levels are expected to remain high, but the threat of significant rainfall appears to be receding, raising hopes for an uninterrupted contest.

However, the unforgiving playoff schedule leaves no room for contingency. With merely a single day separating IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 and the grand finale, the tournament does not permit a reserve day for Sunday’s fixture. As a result, the match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians must reach its conclusion on June 1 itself.

However, in the unlikely event of a complete washout, IPL regulations clearly state that the team with the higher finish in the league standings will advance to the final. This stipulation places Punjab Kings in a favorable position. Having topped the table after the league stage, Punjab not only earned two chances to qualify for the final but also hold the edge in the event of an abandoned game. Their narrow defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1 has not diminished their prospects, as they retain a conditional advantage going into this clash.

Conversely, the equation is stark for Mumbai Indians. The five-time champions, who placed fourth in the league phase, must secure an outright win to progress. Any rain-induced disruption leading to a no-result would abruptly end their campaign, denying them even a shot at contesting the final.

Understandably, both teams are eager to avoid a scenario where fate is dictated by the weather rather than performances on the field. Players and fans alike are hoping the skies remain clear, allowing the cricket to take center stage in what promises to be an intense and decisive battle.
