Mumbai Indians (MI) emerged victorious by 59 runs on Wednesday in the IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium. Premier batsman Suryakumar Yadav played a crucial role as he smashed an unbeaten 73 runs.
The right-hander won the 'Player of the Match' award for his contribution to the team's victory, which he dedicated it to his wife, Devisha Shetty.
"It's been 13 games now. My wife told me a sweet story today. She said you've got all the awards except MoM. This award is special today. From the team's point of view, the knock was important, and also, this trophy is for her. She waits for such moments and we celebrate it obviously, looking forward to it," the 34-year-old said during the post-match presentation.
In the crucial match against DC, Naman Dhir shouldered Suryakumar in the first innings to help the side post a respectable total. Facing just eight balls, Naman played an unbeaten knock of 24 runs, which was laced with two boundaries and the same number of maximums.
Speaking about him, Suryakumar said, "It was important for a single batter to bat till the end. We knew there was one over of 15-20 runs somewhere, so we had to wait till the end. The way Naman came in and shared that energy with me was also a turning point."
In the second essay of the game, while defending a target of 181 runs, pacer Jasprit Bumrah and spinner Mitchell Santner claimed three wickets each.
Completing his quota of four overs, Santner conceded 11 runs. On the other hand, Bumrah, with his special abilities, conceded 12 runs in 3.2 overs.
Following Mumbai's win, the playoffs seats are confirmed with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings being the remaining three sides. The Hatdik Pandya-led MI will conclude its group stage matches with a game against Punjab Kings on May 26. The clash is set to take place at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The next group stage clashes will determine which spot these four sides will occupy in the standings before the IPL 2025 playoffs.
