Kane Williamson's shrewd cricketing brain was there for everyone to see with the way he led New Zealand to the World T20 semi-finals recently.

Williamson&rsquo;s side suffered only one defeat in the tournament &mdash; the semi-final against England at the Feroz Shah Kotla and the way he led, he made it appear as if Brendon McCullum&rsquo;s absence was not felt.
The New Zealand skipper is hoping to play a larger role in Sunrisers Hyderabad&rsquo;s campaign after getting just a couple of opportunities in the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
&lsquo;Important to pick the best team&rsquo; "Yes, you always want to play and I am always prepared for it. At the same time, it is also important to pick the best team as per the conditions and the opposition you are playing. I am behind the team in whatever decisions they make," Williamson told mid-day on Saturday.
Williamson, who was retained by Hyderabad for the ninth edition of the IPL, played against Chennai Super Kings in SRH&rsquo;s fourth match where he remained unbeaten on 26. In his next match, he scored five against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Williamson impressed with the way New Zealand prepared the World T20. The meticulous planning and different preparation for the every opposition was the factor that stood out in their campaign.
However, Williamson laughed off suggestions that he was a master of reading conditions well. "I don&rsquo;t think so. You try and make your best decisions as per the conditions and the players you have. In the end, you need to play well to win the games.
Reading the conditions well "We played under a variety of conditions during the World T20 and the guys who played certainly adjusted and adapted to the grounds quickly which was important for us to win matches," said the modest Kiwi skipper.
"It is very important that your preparations are suited to the conditions and the opposition you are playing against. That&rsquo;s what we tried to do. You do the best you can and it&rsquo;s not going to work all the time. The players are aware what the team is trying to do and can perform to help win games," he added.
ealand once again came close to winning an ICC trophy after losing the 2015 World Cup final to Australia and semis of the World T20 recently. Williamson said his players are not losing sleep over not being able to win an ICC title.
"Winning a World title will be great. The difference between the World title and being semi-finalists is two games.
We want to keep improving our cricket and not get too caught up in chasing silverware. It will rather happen if the team is improving. All we can do is control the way we play our cricket," he signed off.
