Following the drubbing in the Test series against England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) yesterday decided to give a "break" to bowling and fielding coaches Joe Dawes and Trevor Penny respectively.
It sent an SOS to Sanjay Bangar, Arun (as assistant coaches) and R Sridhar (fielding coach) to join the team in England for the limited overs matches. Former India skipper Ravi Shastri was appointed as Team Director and will look after the overall affairs of the team.
Arun, who was the India U-19 coach during the last World Cup in United Arab Emirates, is a part of the National Cricket Academy set up in Bangalore.
"It was a pleasant surprise. The feeling is yet to sink in," Arun told mid-day.
Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's boys would be feeling very low after losing the five-match Test series 1-3 from being 1-0 up after second Test at Lord's.
Shastri and the new support staff will no doubt have a tough task at hand to turnaround the fortunes.
"I always dreamt to be part of the Indian team support staff.
"It is going to be a massive challenge and I am looking forward to it," the former India pacer signed off.
