A second-half goal by Salomon Kalou gave Chelsea an invaluable 1-0 win away against Benfica in their Champions League quarter-final first-leg match here on Tuesday.

Kalou struck with just over 15 minutes remaining, tucking away the ball after fine work down the right by Fernando Torres.

The winners play either holders Barcelona or AC Milan in the last four.
