Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has offered star defender John O'Shea a new 16.5-million-pound contract, and said the initiative is being taken to ensure stars commit to Old Trafford for the long-term.

He has already given new contracts to star striker Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra, the Sun reports.
