The skipper became the first New Zealander in 84 years of Test cricket to reach 300 at Basin Reserve here. "Yesterday (Tuesday) stopped a nation to a degree," Hesson said.
"A lot of people took a great deal of satisfaction out of it. As a New Zealander, not only as coach, it was a pretty special moment. A lot of people were touched by it and gained lots of satisfaction from it and quite rightly so," he added.
New Zealand won the five-match ODI series 4-0 and the two-Test series 1-0. McCullum's 302 surpassed Martin Crowe's 299 &mdash; compiled at the same ground in 1991. We all sat on the same seats for a couple of days, ate the same food and tried to do as little as we could. When he got to 300 you saw true emotion come out and we were all delighted for him," the coach said.
"He was pretty sore after day three and four but I guess it's a good sore. Once he got 300, he looked a lot fresher than an hour before," he added.
