MI New York defeated the reigning champions, Washington Freedom, by five runs to win the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 title at the Grand Prairie Stadium.

Rushil Ugarkar was the man who defended 12 runs in the final over against the swashbuckling duo, Glenn Maxwell and Glenn Phillips.


Defending a target of 181 runs, MI New York's lead pacer Trent Boult claimed two wickets by conceding 32 runs in four overs. Ugarkar shouldered him by claiming two wickets. Nosthush Kenjige registered one wicket to his name. Tajinder Sinfh, Tristan Luss, and Kieron Pollard went wicketless in the MLC 2025 final.



During the run chase, Washington Freedom lost the early wicket of its opening batsman, Mitchell Owen, who departed on a duck on the very first ball. Fellow opening batsman Rachin Ravindra accumulated 70 runs in 41 deliveries, including eight boundaries and two maximums.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Andries Gous could not open his account after facing four balls. Later, Jack Edwards played a knock of 33 runs, which came in 22 balls, including two boundaries and the same number of maximums.

Maxwell, often known for stunning displays with the willow, managed to score just 15 runs in 16 balls. Phillips stayed unbeaten on 48 runs after facing 34 deliveries. His knock was laced with five maximums. On the other hand, Obus Pienaar was unbeaten in four runs in two balls, including a boundary.

Earlier in the match, Quinton de Kock smashed 77 runs for MI New York in 46 balls. He reached the score with the help of six boundaries and four maximums. Fellow opening batsman Monank Patel returned to the pavilion after scoring 28 runs in 22 balls, with the help of two boundaries and a maximum.

Skipper Nicholas Pooran garnered 21 runs off 17 deliveries, which was laced with a boundary and a maximum. His knock was followed by Kunwarjeet Singh Ballagan, who scored 22 runs off just 13 balls, including two boundaries and a maximum.

Lockie Ferguson bagged three wickets for Washington. He conceded 21 runs in four overs. Saurabh Netravalkar, skipper Maxwell, Edwards, and Ian Holland registered one wicket each to their names. Mitchell Owen went wicketless in the MLC 2025 final.
