Mumbai Cricket Association's much-awaited T20 tournament - Mumbai T20 - has been postponed indefinitely. One of the major reasons, sources cited, was the short span of time to complete the documentation formalities before the league could kick off on January 4. However, the MCA yesterday got a good reason to postpone their league after an email intimation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated their decision to bring forward the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament.

The BCCI did so to maximise the prospects of the Indian domestic cricketers in the IPL mega auction that will be held in Bangalore on January 27 and 28. The zonal league matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament which was scheduled from January 21, has been rescheduled to
January 8 to 16. An MCA source said: "The paper work between the lawyers of both parties [MCA and the organiser] is taking a lot of time. Given the time left for the league to start, it would have been impossible to put everything in place. So, instead of putting up a shoddy show in our inaugural season, it was decided to postpone it."

The MCA is eyeing a March window now to organise the Mumbai T20 league. However, MCA's joint secretary Dr Unmesh Khanvilkar said the postponement is due to clash of tournaments with the BCCI. "When we decided to hold our T20 tournament from January 4 to 9, it was not clashing with any other BCCI tournament. Since the BCCI has now intimated us about their change in schedule, we have decided to hold it later. We will finalise the new schedule soon," Khanvilkar told mid-day. The Mumbai T20 league has been in the pipeline since a couple of years. This time, however, the MCA was confident to pull it off without any further hiccups after a fanfare announcement of the league recently. But this time too, plans have taken a beating.
