Far away from home, 41-time Ranji Trophy champions enthralled fans in the national capital with a delicious run feast as Suryakumar Yadav (103 off 86 balls) and Kaustubh Pawar (100 off 228) smashed contrasting centuries against the visiting New Zealanders on the second day of the warm-up match at Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday.
Resuming at 29 for one, Mumbai went on to reach 431 for five at stumps after the Kiwis posted 324 for seven on the opening day. Yadav and Pawar added 155 for the fourth wicket at a healthy run-rate well over five runs. Suryakumar was the more aggressive one, bringing up his half-century and ton with huge sixes.

Skipper Aditya Tare was impressed. &ldquo;All credit to Surya and Kaustubh. It was a good opportunity for them to build their confidence. I am happy they got a lot of runs. I loved the way Surya accelerated when he came out to bat. Both of their innings were balanced. Surya was attacking while the other was playing a defensive game,&rdquo; Tare, who himself enjoyed the outing, scoring an unbeaten 53, told mid-day.

In another highlight for Mumbai, rookie Armaan Jaffer, yet to make his first-class debut, scored a well-scripted 69 off 123 balls. Tare was glad Mumbai could get a chance to play against a Test team. &ldquo;Our skills got challenged by a tough opposition. The pitch was a bit flat, the weather was humid but that&rsquo;s no excuse for any team to under-perform,&rdquo; he added.
There was nothing much to talk about the New Zealand side. The spinners Mitchell Santner (1-71), Mark Craig (0-60) and Ish Sodhi (2-132) too disappointed, but Tare reckons the spin was a bit tough to handle.
A total of 402 runs were scored in 90 overs at a run rate of 4.46, with Rohit Sharma (18 off 40) being the only disappointment for Mumbai.
