Ahead of the Ashes series against Australia, former England skipper Nasser Hussain said that all-rounder Jacob Bethell should play in the County Championship before the mega event.
He also said that Bethell seems to have lost the rhythm in his batting.
"I know there's a T20 World Cup coming up, and the white ball stuff is hugely important. But he seems to have lost the rhythm of batting," said Hussain.
The former cricketer also pointed out that the 21-year-old is yet to score a professional century, and he can get that against a good bowling attack in the County Championship.
"He has not got a professional hundred yet. Go and get a professional hundred. I think Warwickshire play Surrey as well. That will be a real good opportunity against a good bowling attack," he said.
Further, Nasser Hussain said that national selectors and team director often find themselves among the criticism for not focusing enough on white-ball cricket.
"So that's my personal thinking. Rob Key (team's managing director), selectors, they often get criticised for not focusing in on white ball stuff. They may say, 'right, we've got a World Cup, you need to play more white ball stuff.' It will be interesting to see," he signed off.
So far, Jacob Bethell has represented England in four Test matches and has scored 271 runs, including three half-centuries. With the ball, he has managed to claim just three wickets.
He has also played 12 ODIs for the 'Three Lions', in which he has accumulated 317 runs, with the help of three half-centuries. The left-hander also has seven wickets to his name in the format.
Having played 13 T20I matches for the side, the 21-year-old has also scored 281 runs, including two half-centuries. He has also scalped four wickets.
In first-class cricket, Bethell has scored 1,041 runs in 25 matches and 40 innings at an average of 27.39, with eight fifties.
The first Test match of the much-anticipated Ashes is scheduled to be played at the Perth Stadium from November 21. It will be followed by four other matches, and the final game will conclude on January 8, 2026.
