Dubai: The West Indies camp will be sick of the sight of this young man. Babar Azam slammed three successive hundreds in the ODI series against West Indies. Yesterday, a day short of his 22nd birthday, Azam announced himself yet again on the world stage, this time in the Test cricket.
Debutant Azam walked in at the fall of number three batsman Asad Shafiq&rsquo;s fall (67: 119b, 8x4) and immediately got into the act. The ease with which the young man batted under lights on the second day of this day-night Test against West Indies, underscored his emerging status in Pakistan cricket.
To think that Azam (69: 105b, 5x4) played the Test only because senior pro Younus Khan pulled out as he was unwell, makes his innings even more creditable. He aligned himself quite easily with Azhar Ali (272*) as the pair added 165 runs for the third wicket. By the time Azam fell Pakistan had consolidated their hold on the Test match, as they took tea at 530 for three.
At the other end Ali continued to pile up the runs as he marched effortlessly to his highest Test score.
