Payyade Sports Club recorded a first innings victory over Young Friends to win the &lsquo;A&rsquo; Division of the Dr HD Kanga Cricket League yesterday at Cross Maidan. Leading the table with 15 points, this is their first ever title in the &lsquo;A&rsquo; Division. However, they reached 200 for 4. An all-round performance by Musavir Khote (5 for 45 and 62 not out), and Paul Valthaty&rsquo;s 33-ball 62 was instrumental in their victory. Payyade captain Omkar Khanvilkar attributed their maiden Kanga League &lsquo;A&rsquo; Division title to a fine team effort. &ldquo;There&rsquo;s a great atmosphere in the dressing room. We enjoy each other&rsquo;s company and performances. We&rsquo;ve gelled really well,&rdquo; he said. Khanvilkar added that his team was just carrying forward their momentum from previous successes. &ldquo;We recently won the Police, Comrade and Talim Shields. So, we were in good form and carried forward that momentum,&rdquo; he said. In other matches, Karnataka SA, who were in the race for the championship at the beginning of the day with 12 points, drew with Shivaji Park Youngsters. Meanwhile, Virendra Kambli&rsquo;s century for Apollo went in vain as they lost to Mumbai Police. His knock of 102 off 120 balls included a six and 14 fours. At Matunga, Victory batted through the day to score 321 for six against Parkophene.
