Former India batsman Pravin Amre has resigned from the Managing Committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) with immediate effect after he was appointed as the head of Indian Premier League team's Delhi Daredevils' talent hunt programme.

Amre took the decision to avoid conflict of interest charges laid down by the Lodha Committee and Supreme Court-appointed Committee Of Administrators (COA). He shot off a letter (a copy of which is with mid-day) to the MCA president Ashish Shelar yesterday.

In the letter, Amre stated: "It is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation from the Managing Committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association with immediate effect.

"I have to take this big step in keeping with the high standards that our august cricket body has set over the years. I have just been appointed as head of Talent Hunt for Delhi Daredevils and it was only in fitness of things that I stand down from the MCA.
"This I believe is the ideal way to avoid being considered a fit case for conflict of interest as per the guidelines of the Justice Lodha panel recommendations."

Amre's sudden resignation may have a huge bearing on the MCA's Cricket Improvement Committee of which he was the chief.
It can be recalled that Amre was charged with conflict of interest by the ombudsman Justice AP Shah appointed by the BCCI in July 2016.

The ombudsman had ordered Amre to choose between MCA administration and coach of the Delhi Daredevils. Amre, however, continued serving the MCA and the IPL team despite the ombudsman's ruling.
