Team India stalwart Virat Kohli recently drew curtains on his longest format career with immediate effect. His decision to retire from the format came a few days after Team India's traditional opening batsman Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Tests.
In a conversation with Sanjana Ganesan on 'ICC Review', the former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri revealed the talks he carried with Kohli before the veteran decided to step away from the format.
"I did speak to him about it, I think a week before that [his announcement] and his mind was very clear that he’d given his everything," said Shastri.
"There were no regrets. There were one or two questions I asked, and that’s a personal conversation which, you know, he mentioned very clearly, there were no doubts in his mind, which made me think, ‘Yes, the time is right’. The mind has told his body that it’s time to go," added the 62-year-old.

Virat Kohli announced his retirement ahead of the Test series against England. Team India will lock horns against the “Three Lions” for a five-match Test series.
India's think tank will have a huge void to fill in after the retirements of stalwarts Rohit and Kohli. Earlier, the duo stepped away from the shortest format of the game after Team India's T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. They will now continue to feature in just one format, One-Day Internationals (ODIs).
Virat concluded his Test career after representing India in 123 matches. The 36-year-old scored 9,230 runs, including 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries. His top score in the format is an unbeaten 254 runs.
The Delhi-born is currently busy featuring in the IPL 2025 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Previously, the BCCI decided to suspend the tournament for one week due to the escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
Later, the board announced to resume the tournament from May 17, with the first game scheduled to be played between RCB and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The match will be played in the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium at 7.30 pm.
