Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant provided a health update on Monday after being officially ruled out of the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval. The dynamic vice-captain took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to thank his fans for the support he has received and offer insight into his recovery process.
"Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way. It's been a real source of strength," Pant wrote. "I will begin rehab once my fracture heals and I am slowly settling into the process. Staying patient, following the routines, and giving it my 100%," Pant wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "Playing for my country has always been the proudest moment of my life. Can't wait to be back doing what I love."

Pant returned to bat the following day, visibly limping but determined. He not only completed his half-century but played a key role in helping India post a competitive total exceeding 350. His fighting spirit even extended to volunteering to bat in the second innings if needed. However, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar ensured his services weren’t required, guiding India to a hard-fought draw and keeping the series alive heading into the final Test.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially confirmed Pant’s absence in a statement released on Sunday. “The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress, and the team wishes him a speedy recovery,” the release stated.
In Pant’s absence, Dhruv Jurel has been entrusted with wicketkeeping duties for the upcoming final Test at The Oval, which begins on July 31. The selectors have also called up Narayan Jagadeesan as a backup to strengthen the squad.
Pant has been one of India’s standout performers in the ongoing series, amassing 479 runs in seven innings. His contributions include twin centuries in the series opener at Headingley and a gritty 74 at Lord’s, where he batted courageously despite taking a blow to the hand from Jasprit Bumrah while standing up to the stumps.
