Mumbai scalped five wickets in the last session to deny Baroda first day honours in their second round Ranji Trophy Group 'A' match at Palam Ground in New Delhi yesterday.
At tea, Baroda were 192-4 and cruising towards a 300-plus score. However, left-arm spinner Vijay Gohil (3-70) struck thrice to restrict Baroda at 286-9 when stumps were drawn on the first day. For Baroda, wicketkeeper&ndash;batsman Pinal Shah top scored with 66.
"We should have done better. Losing nine wickets at the end of the day isn't good, considering we were in a good position at tea. We have to blame ourselves for our shot selection. We lost three wickets more (than expected)," said Shah, who smashed ten boundaries during his 125-ball knock. Shah, who fell to Gohil, was involved in two partnerships&mdash; 66 and 60 runs with Deepak Hooda (46) and Yusuf Pathan (41) respectively.
The Irfan Pathan-led outfit missed the services of the Pandya brothers &ndash; Hardik and Krunal. While Hardik is out on national duty, Krunal has been sidelined due to injury. Shah, who will turn 29 next month, had mixed feelings for his 66.
"When you have good runs under your belt at the start of the season, it gives you a lot of satisfaction. At the same time, I missed a century and a chance to take the team beyond 300," he added.
