Former Team India pacer Rudra Pratap Singh and spinner Pragyan Ojha are set to become the national selectors following the exit of S Sharath and Subroto Banerjee from the current panel headed by Ajit Agarkar.
RP Singh was a part of Team India's 2007 World Cup triumph, who also bowled in the previous Test series in England. He is coming from the Central Zone, considering that he has played most of his cricket for Uttar Pradesh.
He was also a part of the Parthiv Patel-led Gujarat team that lifted the Ranji Trophy in 2016-17. RP will replace Banerjee.
On the other hand, from the South, Pragyan Ojha, who has 100-plus Test wickets under his belt, was an automatic choice.
Sharath is set to replace Tilak Naidu as the chairman of the junior selection committee.
"RP and Pragyan are two players who have been asked to apply and it is clear that Cricket Advisory Committee is likely to clear the two names ahead of BCCI's AGM," a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
RP Singh concluded his international career by playing 14 Test matches for India, in which he managed to grab 40 wickets. He also featured in 58 ODIs and bagged 69 scalps, whereas in 10 T20Is, the pacer claimed 15 wickets.
On the other hand, Pragyan Ojha has donned the Indian whites in 24 matches and has registered 113 wickets. He also represented the side in 18 ODIs by claiming 21 scalps. In the shortest format of the game, he made six appearances and registered 10 wickets to his name.
In fact, he managed to get a 10-wicket haul in his last international game, which also happened to be the last match of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
Currently, Team India is busy featuring in the Asia Cup 2025. So far, the "Men in Blue" have registered victories in two matches and will conclude their group stage matches by playing a game against Oman on September 19.
One of the most electrifying clashes of the tournament between arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, also ended in favour of the Indians.
